For its second annual all-photography show, the innovative art exhibit and party known as Create:Fixate digs into the medium's vast versatility. With work ranging from the haunting nighttime landscapes of Craig Havens to the playful documentary images of Jamie Trueblood (who shot stills for Lords of Dogtown), the 28 photographers in the show reveal and reflect, startle and repulse — sometimes all with the same image. Alongside DJ'd beats and bleeps, tonight's musical lineup features wiry post-punk group the Transmissions, a promising Los Angeles trio that's been busy gathering critical comparisons to Modest Mouse and Blonde Redhead. "Pre-emptive Strike"
Imagine a thousand squadron of Iranian Air Force jets flying low over New York, Atlanta, and Cedar Rapids. Over the Napa Valley and Crawford, Texas. Persian Stealth bombers flying low under the radar, dropping a million copies of Hafiz, on America, simply for love. - Joe Zarantonello

"We are not exactly what we think we are, which, I think, is where it starts to get interesting. Then, what are we? Who are we? We might turn the searchlight inward and start to find out a little bit, come home, and make ourselves at home, here in this universe, instead of acting like disenfranchised aliens, strangers in a strange land." - lama surya das (a.k.a. what i'd like to do is set up a fund for artists who contribute to enlightentainment in some way...provide the space and tools...even the living quarters on the art colony grounds...artists could apply for a space or sponsorship of their project...and in return would contribute artwork to enlightentainment...which would promote the artist as well...
integral art is collaborative by nature...as it recognizes in each of our individual art projects the contributions of so many artists around us...
martial arts is the most integral of arts...and as a physical practice way more challenging than that wimpy weightlifting crap...
none...other than your Self...

a monk asked isan, "what is the tao?" "mindlessness is the tao," isan replied. "i don't comprehend," the monk said. "all you need to do is to apprehend the one who does not comprehend." "who is the one who does not comprehend?" the monk said. "none other than yourself," replied isan. |

| INSIGHT IS THE ENVIRONMENT AROUND THE BREATH |

chogyam trungpa:
As far as Buddha was concerned, at that point [of his enlightenment] it was not the message but the implications that were more important. And as followers of Buddha, we have this approach, which is the idea of vipashyana, literally meaning "insight." Insight is relating not only with what you see but also with the implications of it, the totality of the space and objects around it. Breath is the object of meditation, but the environment around the breath is also part of the meditative situation.

The Temporary Autonomous Zone, Ontological Anarchy, Poetic Terrorism By Hakim Bey
Poetic Terrorism WEIRD DANCING IN ALL-NIGHT computer-banking lobbies. Unauthorized pyrotechnic displays. Land-art, earth-works as bizarre alien artifacts strewn in State Parks. Burglarize houses but instead of stealing, leave Poetic-Terrorist objects. Kidnap someone & make them happy. Pick someone at random & convince them they're the heir to an enormous, useless & amazing fortune--say 5000 square miles of Antarctica, or an aging circus elephant, or an orphanage in Bombay, or a collection of alchemical mss. Later they will come to realize that for a few moments they believed in something extraordinary, & will perhaps be driven as a result to seek out some more intense mode of existence. Bolt up brass commemorative plaques in places (public or private) where you have experienced a revelation or had a particularly fulfilling sexual experience, etc.

THE COMMON HEART
An Experience of Inter-Religious Dialogue
Edited by Netanel Miles-Yepez
Foreword by Ken Wilber
In 1984, Father Thomas Keating invited a broad range of spiritual teachers from virtually all of the world’s great wisdom traditions -- Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Indigenous, Islamic -- to gather together at St. Benedict’s Monastery in Snowmass, Colorado. They kept no records, published no reports, filmed none of the proceedings. In fact, the results of that extraordinary gathering have been largely secret, until now. ( Read more... ) |

during the holotropic breathing workshop last weekend...stan always seemed to be around...he was rooming just a few doors down from us...and always seemed to be walking in or out as we did...even during the breathing sessions he would walk around the room and help with body work or observe people as they tapped into their unconscious or the collective unconscious... finally, on the last day, he held an open question&answer for the participants...and at one point told a story about the first time he did peyote in a ritual ceremony with the native american church...he was allowed to come to the reservation and bring some guests but they had to go through a kind of encounter group before they'd be allowed to participate with the church members as many were a bit uncomfortable with allowing outsiders to participate...eventually most everyone agreed to allow them to join in, however there was one man who was completely against these white people participating and, while reluctantly going along, remained full of anger and hatred at the intruders...during the entire ceremony he sat across the circle from stan and gazed at him with hatred... eventually, at the end all were allowed to speak...and while one of the guests was thanking his hosts for including them, it was mentioned that stan was so far from his home in czechoslovakia...at the moment this was mentioned, the indian man sitting across from stan rose and ran over to him...sobbing with tears, he hugged stan and eventually spoke to the group...apologizing that he had brought so much hatred to this spiritual ceremony, but also for directing it at someone who he had assumed was american and thus connected to all the destruction that had been visited upon his people by these white intruders...but not only had he wrongly associated stan with complicity in the rape and destruction of his people, he admitted that in the second world war he had joined the american military and participated in the bombing of a city in czechoslavakia...so it was actually himself who had attacked stan's homeland and destroyed his people... |

when you think or speak about yourself, when you say "I", what you usually refer to is "me and my story." this the "I" of your likes and dislikes, fears and desires, the "I" that is never satisfied for long. it is a mind-made sense of who you are, conditioned by the past and seeking to find its fulfillmment in the future. - eckhart tolle

i heard a story about ol' aleister crowley...one of his practices to eliminate this problem of "me and my story" was to slash his arm with a razor everytime he said "I"...now that's hardcore spiritual practice...( Read more... ) |

Imagine a cross between the Hajj and Burning Man, produced by Baz Luhrmann in India, and you can see why filmmakers Maurizio Benazzo and Nick Day created this documentary. Kumbh Mela is a 2000-year-old tradition occuring once every 12 years that attracts hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. Spiritual leaders (including the Dalai Lama), artists, musicians, philosophers, and acolytes gather to teach, learn, and feel the ecstasy of enlightenment. The climax, the ritual bath in the Ganges, is supposed to purify pilgrims so completely as to assure them a place in heaven. (SND)
Note: 100% of the opening night proceeds benefit tsunami relief efforts.

"Wanting to own, wanting to possess and not being prepared to give out is not really a weakness for any particular thing. It is more generally wanting to occupy oneself with something, and if you have lost or lose interest in that particular thing, then you always want to substitute something else in its place....So that is the real weakness -- though not exactly weakness, but more a kind of habit that one tends to form through a neurotic process of thoughts. The whole thing boils down to this overlapping of thoughts which goes on all the time in our minds. We never allow anything to really happen or take place in our mind. One thought comes and, almost before we finish that, another one comes in and overlaps it and then another. So we never allow any gap which would permit us to be free and really digest things. Therefore it becomes a continual demand, a continual process of creating and wanting to own. And that is why one has to develop this generosity of really opening oneself." - Chogyam Trungpa |

"Either fly as far as you can from men, or else, laughing at the world and the men who are in it, make yourself a fool in many things." - Thomas Merton
The Fool is an innocent, bound on a journey he knows not where, with only the conviction that with optimism the greater good will prevail. The Fool has faith in himself to bring him through new experiences, as we must have faith in ourselves, knowing our hearts lead the way and where good intentions prevail, the correct path will become apparent.
The Fool has little baggage, little preparation and his only muses are the little butterfly people who follow him, representing transformation and change, as well as his instincts for survival that will help him make his way through the weary world. He is a free spirit, an unformed personality ready to take on anything, climbing towards spiritual enlightenment.
The Fool is on a journey, an adventure. He represents new and possibly unexpected changes in one's life to a new and uncharted territory. This territory may not be a physical change in location; it can be a new creative path, a new field of study or a new business opportunity. This change may be an adventure of some type that has a beginning and end, or it may be the kind of change that affects an entire lifestyle, but as in all changes it involves risk. |
